My Story
On the 5th of December 2023 I retired from Lancashire Police, full of anticipation and excitement at the thought of the next chapter of my life and some of the challenges I would now have the time to undertake...which included a mid life (old age!) itch to try and complete a half marathon .....
....sadly on the 10th of December 2023 my good friend and colleague, Pete Lawson, tragically and unexpectedly passed away at his home, having suffered a catastrophic heart attack, colloquially named 'the widow maker'.
In order to honour Pete's memory and to scratch my itch I have entered the Great Manchester Run half marathon event & have elected to try and raise some cash for the British Heart Foundation.
The BHF fund around £100 million of research each year into all heart and circulatory diseases and the things that cause them.
Heart diseases. Stroke.
Vascular dementia. Diabetes.
They're all connected, and they're all under their microscope.
Heart attacks that strike without warning, strokes that shatter futures, newborn babies born with broken hearts, families losing loved ones over and over due to vascular dementia. These are just some of the cruelties of heart and circulatory diseases. And the brutal reality is, there is so much more for science to discover before one of world’s biggest killers can be beaten.
Every donation funds scientific breakthroughs. Your donations will support the lifesaving research that turns science fiction into reality.
I'm aiming high for the fundraising target at £2060 - Pete's collar number, so if you can spare a bit of cash, please dig deep, in memory of a top bloke and for a great cause.
thanks
Wendy
